Here’s the back-story on my dear friend, AnneNewsChannel8…
For several years, Anne and I couldn’t STAND each other – or so I thought. We worked together at KCCI in Des Moines … where I was universally and unequivocally loved by everyone – except for Anne. I thought she didn’t like me. She thought I didn’t like her. We spent the better part of a year shooting laser beams out of our eyes at each other.
Then one day we ended up going out with a bunch of co-workers. Eventually, everyone left and Anne and I were left at the table in awkward silence. Honestly, I was so hopped up on margaritas, I don’t remember how we finally broke the (crushed) ice. Turns out, we were misunderstood youth. And instantly became BFF’s.
Anne has moved her way up the ranks from bottom-o’-the-barrel Topeka, KS to being the main anchor at WBBM-TV in Chicago. She has done very well for herself and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I had the chance to visit her in Chicago two weeks ago for my BDay.
Anne is equally fun, chatty and engaging. She wears a lot of hats. And no – that’s not a figure of speech. She LITERALLY wears a lot of hats. No wonder we get along so well. She and I like the same girly things. We both love impulse shopping and good eats! Thus, clearly we’re practically cut from the same cloth.
We had a great weekend of mindless fun including seeing a matinee performance at “Second City.” The improv players were hysterically entertaining. The best part? We were the last pair of standby tickets to get in to the show … which made it that much more of a rush.
Television news is very incestuous. I know someone in practically every market in the good ol’ U.S. of A. But very few of those people would let me crash with them for an entire weekend … especially considering we used to “despise” each other. So thanks AnneStateNewsChannel8! You’re the best friend a boy could have! And you’ll always have a place to hang your hat(s) if you ever want to visit KC, sisterfriend!
