Years ago I penned a rather vague e-mail to one of my colleagues about an upcoming project we were working on. Apparently, I wasn’t being specific enough about certain details. She politely pointed that out in her response e-mail. And she included a picture of a bunny with a pancake on its head.
Seems the bunny/pancake picture had been making the rounds via the Internet. But the picture made me laugh out loud because it was so pointless and, yes, my original e-mail lacked important facts.
If someone is having a bad day around here … I will send them this picture. If someone pisses me off … I will send them this picture. The bunny/pancake picture has become my catch-all response to a lot of different e-mails. When my co-worker sent it to me, I didn’t know how to respond. It totally threw me off. (Precisely the idea, huh?)
Apparently, this bunny had a back story. And it has since become part of internet-lore. Its name was Oolong – named after the oolong variety of tea. This domestic rabbit was owned by photographer Hironori Akutagawa. The rabbit was famous for its ability to balance a variety of objects of his head. How proud he AND his owner must be!
Oolong died in 2003, but his legacy lives on. Google “bunny” and “pancake” and you immediately get over 400,000 hits. Only Bugs and Roger have achieved better fame.
There’s really no point to this blog entry … other than to introduce you to Oolong. Feel free to send him out to you friends and neighbors. Lemme know what sort of response you get – if any.
