Kathy Griffin Celebrates 50th BDay with … Gloria Vanderbilt?!?

kathygriffin1The incomparable Kathy Griffin celebrated her 50th BDay over the weekend with a private dinner party hosted by Gloria Vanderbilt.

Yes, THAT Gloria Vanderbilt.  Of denim-fame.  And high-society.  And producing Anderson Cooper.

I know what you’re thinking, so we might as well put it out there:  “What the hell is that foul-mouthed comedienne doing hanging out with such a beloved elitist and overall classy gal?”

Well, for one … Griffin is BFF’s with Vanderbilt’s son.  And two, Griffin hung out at Vanderbilt’s recent book launch of The World Of Gloria Vanderbilt with her friend Gloria Steinem.

Yes, THAT Gloria Steinem.  Iconic feminist.  And women’s libber.  And political activist.

This just gets weirder and weirder, eh?

In an interview to Stylelist, BDay girl Griffin said, “It’s my 50th birthday, and I thought, What could be better than a tale of two Glorias?”

Vanderbilt is one of NY’s most iconic treasures.  She ranks right up there with Ed Koch.  So how in the gay hell did Griffin get Vandy (I’m assuming that’s what her friends call her. That’s what I’d call her.) to throw her a BDay dinner?

gloria-vanderbilt“I was doing New Year’s Eve with Anderson, and at the end of the night I could hear him on the phone saying, ‘She’s nice; she’ll talk to you.’ And he handed me the phone. To hear him say the three words, ‘It’s my mom,’ and to be in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, four degrees — I froze even though I was already freezing,” Griffin said.

“She was so sweet and invited me over. I’m in high society basically is what I’m trying to tell you. And get this — Gloria Vanderbilt is having a dinner party for me at her apartment. It’s an exclusive guest list! You know, none of my friends are invited, of course, they’re all too trashy.

Except Steinem. Steinem’s in!”

I would have killed to be a fly on the wall of that party.  Inevitably, Cooper would have made an appearance with his oh-so hunky boyfriend.  I’m sure Griffin was wildly inappropriate and had several guests gasping and clutching their pearls.  Real ones too!  And Gloria probably gave out a swag bag that included several pairs of her 1978 jean collection.  I can’t believe I missed it.

griffin2And what sort of gift did Kathy get from her other BFF Suze Orman?   “I got a cake from Suze Orman.  I’m sure she got a deal on it, being Suze Orman. I’m sure she paid a fair price.”

I only have 10 years before I turn 50.  Guess I’d better start planning my festivities now.  Are you listening, Vandy?!
