One-on-one with Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson

I’m rarely flummoxed or flustered when interviewing celebrities.  They all put their pants on one leg at a time, yes?   And that includes Angelina Jolie and her infamous right leg.

But every once and awhile you meet someone that makes your tongue swell to forty times its normal size … and for me that person is Cheyenne Jackson.  Ever since I saw him roller skate across the stage in “Xanadu”, I’ve been a smitten kitten.

When you have a secret celebrity crush on someone, you can only hope they’re not douche-tastic in real life.  Happens.  (Ashton Kutcher … I’m talking to you.)  So you tend to hope for the best.

Wonder why the picture with me and Mr. Jackson (if you’re nasty) looks blurry?  That’s because our photo guy was completely caught off guard by Cheyenne’s stunning good looks too.  Either that or Cheyenne caused some sort of epileptic attack.  Again, happens.

Some things to note about my MoxieQ interview with Cheyenne … he’s taller than I thought.  I’m standing on my tiptoes through most of the interview so as not to appear slight.  Or the teensiest bit inferior.  I thoroughly bleached my teeth before the red carpet event.  They paled in comparison to Mr. Mega Watt smile.  If you stand next to him, the sheen from his teeth is blinding.  And, in case you’re wondering, he smells great.  Kind of a combination of lemon verbena and Altoids.

Hopefully, you don’t see me doing this on camera … but I’m furiously chomping on gum during the interview.  Clean breath is a priority in my life.  But when I get nervous, I gnaw on gum like a cow chews its cud.  I’m a minty fresh bovine.

Jackson has steadily been climbing the pop culture radar for the last few years, toggling between the stage and TV.  He has an on-again, off-again role on NBC’s “30 Rock” … appearing in last season’s well received live broadcast.  Of course, just days before I interviewed him, “30 Rock” creator Tina Fey announced another upcoming live show next month.  And, mercifully, Cheyenne will be a part of the cast again after being MIA most of this season.

Wondering why he’s been out of the limelight for the last year or so?  Because he’s been putting the final touches on a solo album.  Guess who will be first in line to buy that CD?

This guy.
