If you would have told me a year ago that my bestie Jill Farmer would be on my TV show talking about her new book, I would have told you that you’re insane. Me … a TV host? Jill … an author? Talk about timing and the power of positive thinking!
Two and a half years ago Jill was taking care of me while I was in the hospital recovering from a stroke. It happened in St. Louis, where I had traipsed off to see Jill for a fun-filled girls’ weekend. It still ended up being a girls’ weekend … except that we swapped out raspberry-infused vodka for IVs.
Meh. Happens.
Jill and I have always had a kindred spirit sort of bond. I still remember walking in the doors of my very first TV station in Des Moines and scared of my own shadow. Jill swooped in and took me under her wing … and the rest, as they say, is TV history.
Flash forward twenty years and Jill is sitting on my set dishing on her first self-help book “There’s Not Enough Time … and other lies we tell ourselves.” Mere moments before we went on-air I casually said, “I cannot believe you’re on my show. Actually, I can’t believe I have a show for you to be on.” And then we both burst out laughing. I regained composure with nanoseconds to spare.
If you’re gonna have a BFF … make sure it’s someone as humble as Jill. She’s a built-in therapist/counselor, a shopaholic, a woman wise beyond her years and a human being that puts good energy out in to the universe every second of every day. Oh, and if you’re gonna have a debilitating stroke, she makes a pretty good nursemaid and companion when warranted.
Jill’s book is available via Amazon. May I just say it makes a great Xmas gift. You can thank me later. And if you’re lucky, she just may save your life someday. Or at a minimum give it the ol’ college try.
Great article Michael about you and Jill. Mom and I remember that time very well and the many phone calls Jill made to us to sooth our fears.
