Word Is Out! Torchy’s Tacos KC Has Finally Opened—And, Ooooh, There’s a Secret Menu!

Not to be boastful, but I may have visited Torchy’s Tacos three days in a row since they quietly opened just before the 4th of July holiday weekend. (Sneaky!)

Known for their wildly quirky assortment of made-to-order tacos, fiery queso, and handcrafted margaritas, the Austin-based TexMex eatery is already gaining good word of mouth. Lines are already out the door—which I predicted would happen months ago. Granted, it’s not surprising given the restaurant’s rabid fan base and/or the fact it’s the chain’s first foray into Missouri. They’re located on the south side of Ward Parkway Shopping Center, in the area known as “The Pavilion.”

As a self-proclaimed Torchy’s aficionado, I couldn’t believe my taste buds when a friend in Austin announced, “Do you know they have a secret menu?” You could have knocked me over with a tortilla chip.

She was right. According to the website, it’s where “the damnedest of the damn good tacos live on. They’re wild. They’re wacky. They’re all yours.” Here’s the link to all the yummy goodness.

Naughty Santa (L) and Hillbilly (R)

Here’s just a few I think you might like:

Given the city’s penchant for brisket, I might suggest The Matador—which features chopped brisket, grilled jalapenos, pickled onions, freshly grated jack cheese and fresh avocado with tomatillo sauce. (Yes, please.)

The Trailer Park Hillbilly Style taco offers up hand-battered fried chicken, chorizo, chopped bacon green chiles, green chili queso freshly grated cheddar jack cheese and Poblano sauce.

And because I’m obsessed with shrimp, I give you The Naughty Santa—which is packed with grilled shrimp, chorizo, pickled onions, jack cheese, avocado and their powerful poblano sauce. (I’m so there!)

And—shhhh!—don’t tell everybody. It’s a secret menu for a reason. Also, get the green chili queso. You’ll totes thank me later.
